Transit Visa

  • A Transit Visa is an entry permit granted to a foreign national for admission into Sri Lanka for a brief period which is incidental and in the course of his journey to another destination.
  • Transit Visa is not required to Sri Lanka if the international passengers do not wish to leave the transit area on their arrival at the port of entry in Sri Lanka. However, if any international passengers who wish to enter the country during his/her transit in Sri Lanka it is required to obtain transit visa through ETA. Transit up to two (2) days (a maximum of 48 hours) is issued free of charge upon the submission of relevant documentary proofs.
  • If the transit time exceeds 48 hours it is recommended to obtain Transit visa through the web based visa system known as the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) at eta.gov.lk, which is operated by the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka.
  • Brazilian or other nationals residing in Brazil or other countries in South America who are unable to apply Transit Visa through ETA, can apply transit visa through the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasilia by submitting the following documents and prescribed transit visa fee.
    • Duly filled ETA Transit Visa Application
    • Copy of the bio-data/photo page of the passport with at least six (6) months validity from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka
    • 2 recent colour photographs with light blue or white background in size 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm (Forehead & both ears should be exposed) taken within last 6 months
    • Copy of the return air ticket
    • Details of the accommodation in Sri Lanka (hotel reservation, contacts etc.)
    • Applicant’s local contact details (contact numbers, E-mail & postal address, CPF details)
    • Transit ETA processing fee
  • The Transit visa fee can be paid in cash at the Embassy or to be transferred to the official Bank Account of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasilia. Once the visa fee is transferred, the receipt of the bank transfer must be emailed along with the visa application to the official e-mail of the Embassy, brasilia@mfa.gov.lk.
