Powers of Attorney

  • Sri Lankan citizens living in Brazil and other countries in South America could declare or sign Powers of Attorney to be submitted to a Court of Law in Sri Lanka or any other legal institution or matters of legal nature, in front of an authorized officer at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasilia, Brazil who performs as a Justice of the Peace (JP) under the Consular Act of Sri Lanka.
  • The grantor/declarant must be present at the Embassy in person, with two witnesses to sign the Power of attorney before the designated Officer of the Embassy.
  • The power of attorney must be prepared by a lawyer in Sri Lanka.
  • The Embassy authenticates only the signature of the grantor/declarant presence of the witnesses and the Embassy does not bear any responsibility with regard to the contents of the declaration/attestation.
  • Originals of the relevant documents to substantiate the facts contained in the Power of Attorney must be produced along with the following documents supporting to prove such information.
    • Letter of request by the grantor/declarant explaining the purpose of the intended declaration
    • Power of Attorney prepared by a lawyer
    • Valid passport of the declarant
    • Valid permanent resident card/Visa Card of the grantor/declarant
    • Valid passports of the two witnesses
    • Valid resident/Visa cards of the two witnesses
    • Prescribed fees for the attestation of Powers of Attorney fees
