Passports for Minors/Children

  • Applications for separate Sri Lankan passports for minors of Sri Lankan nationality who are under 16 years of age living in Brazil or other countries in South America can be submitted through the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasilia, Brazil to the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka.
  • Requirements for applying a separate Sri Lankan passport for minors under 16.
    • Duly perfected passport application Form K 35 A
    • Original birth certificate of child issued by the local authority
    • Original Sri Lankan birth certificate of child
    • Original Citizenship Registration Certificate of child
    • Current passport of the child, if any
    • Current passports of mother
    • Current passports of father
    • Original marriage certificate of parents
    • Consent letter/No Objection letter by parents
    • 3 photographs

Instructions

  • In accordance with the regulations of the Government of Sri Lanka inclusion of the details of children in their parents´ passports will no longer be allowed and children below 16 years of age will be issued with separate passports.
  • ‘No Objection’ letter must be duly signed by mother and father both giving consent to the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka to issue a separate passport to the child.
  • If one of the parents is deceased, the original death certificate should be enclosed with the application.
  • If the parents are divorced or separated, the original court decision must be submitted.
  • If the application of a passport for the child is submitted by the guardian of the child, the original judicial document/court decision with respect of the guardianship must be produced in order to prove the guardianship.
  • If the child was born outside Sri Lanka the original Citizenship Registration Certificate must be attached to the passport application. If the Citizenship Registration Certificate is yet to be issued by the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka, a receipt of payment issued in connection with the Citizenship Registration Certificate must be attached.
  • If the required certificates are in foreign language other than English, a certified translation copy in English should be submitted along with the original certificate
  • Three recent colour photographs of the child taken within three (3) months with white background in the size of 3.5cm×4.5 cm must be affixed to the application of the passport.
