- The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasília, Brazil with the approval of the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka may issue Non-Machine Readable Passports (NMRP) to Sri Lankan nationals living or traveling in Brazil or other countries in South America enabling them to return to Sri Lanka in case of an emergency in the following circumstances;
- Current passport is expired or damaged, and no inadequate time to obtain a new passport
- Current passport is lost or stolen
- A new passport is awaiting from the Department of Immigration & Emigration of Sri Lanka
- Documents required for a NMRP
- Letter of request by the applicant
- Duly filled passport application form
- Form D (If passport is lost)
- Original passport
- Original Birth Certificate
- National Identification Card or Sri Lankan Driving Licence
- Police report (If passport is lost)
- Valid visa card/endorsement or permanent resident card
- Certification of Citizenship statues
- Three (3) Photographs
- Travel itinerary/air tickets
- Prescribed fee for the NMRP
